NON-SHOOTING, FIREARMS SAFETY
Specially designed for the non-shooting members
of a family where firearms are present, this class describes the design and
function of firearms and focuses on how to unload them and make them safe.
INTRODUCTION TO YOUR OWN FIREARM
Specially designed for the new firearms owner and providing an orientation to
firearms focused on one particular gun, this course describes the parts and function
of the firearm and its particular ammunition, studies the fundamentals of shooting
from a standing position, conducts an introductory live-fire portion and discusses
cleaning, maintenance and opportunities for skill development.
THE BASICS OF A FIREARM TYPE (eg PISTOL OR RIFLE)
This course introduces a type of firearm and its ammunition in depth.
For example, pistols of the semi-automatic and revolver types are studied as are
single- and double-action varieties. Shooting is studied with several firearms,
both in class-room and live-fire portions. Cleaning, storage and maintenance are
described. Some classes have a diagnostic examination at the end that leaves the
student clear about where they have grasped the concepts fully. These courses do not
require the student to have their own firearm - everything is provided. Of course,
you can bring your own firearm if you wish.
INTRODUCTION TO DEFENSIVE FIREARMS USE, INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE HOME
These are also beginner courses, but with a defensive focus. They work towards the
student developing a working familiarity with their firearm from a defensive point
of view. The classes include how to fire double- and single-handed,
with either hand (ie, left and right). These skills can be strengthened independently
via the your own range practice, through private lessons with a ScotShot
instructor, or both. These courses introduce concepts such as concealment and cover,
moving with a firearm, and drawing and reholstering a loaded
handgun. These courses also cover general legal aspects of defensive firearms use.
BECOME AN NRA OR USCCA CERTIFIED FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR
If you want to pass your skills on, and develop the Knowledge, Skills and Attitude
of the next generation of shooters, ask about becoming an Instructor. It is demanding,
and it does require a sense of purpose and a dedication to seeing others do well,
but it is enormously satisfying. Everyone of us brings a unique approach to being
an instructor, and can reach a different part of the gun-owning community.
You can be an instructor!
